Cliffs of Moher

Western Ireland has a magnificent attraction.....The cliffs of Moher. The cliffs consist of shale and sandstone and you can see the 300 million year old river channels at the base of the cliffs. The cliffs rise 390 feet above the Atlantic Ocean at Hag's Head. The Cliffs of Moher take their name from a ruined promontory fort “Mothar” which was demolished during the Napoleonic wars to make room for a signal tower.

O'Brians Tower is a round stone tower at the midpoint of the cliffs. It was built by Sir Cornelius O'Brian, a descendant of Ireland's High King Brian Boru, in order to impress female visitors. You can still walk the stairs to the tower.
