This church dates back to the 1600's. It was rebuilt several times thus naming it "New Church" and what was amazing is you can look at the stone and tell the areas that were original. The more time progressed, the better cutting and replacing of the stones.
Several areas had statues built in the windows.
The ruins inside the church. Hundreds of years of prayer were here. I was just praying my boys wouldn't find a way to get hurt.
The inside of the church where the bell area once was.
This was a neat find. There was at least a four foot cellar hidden beneath three feet of wood and dirt. We moved enough rocks to be able to peak through the crevice at the dirt floor. There was no outside door, so there must have been a lift door once in the church.
Area where a stain glass was once placed.
The graveyard surrounding the church. Some graves were so old, nothing could be read on the head stones. Hailey found the oldest dating back to the late 1600's.
There is a plaque on the wall stating " Those who love Irish melodies, enchanting and sublime, should raise a wreath of laurels o'er his grave"
The church was right on the Lough Gur Lake.
We had so much fun we stayed and watched the sun set.
