The UAE is the place to be!

Made it to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates! We stayed a couple nights at the Arabian Courtyards. We were welcomed by an Indian who knew Hindi. Matt and the door man hit it off instantly. Indians really love kids.

The hotel's traditional Arabic decor added a authentic twist. Very traditional inside, very modern outside. The Eid celebration included dining on cushions on the floor.

I'm not into the Arabic furniture but the tents with sitting areas are so fun. I see myself setting up an Arabian tent in my backyard with flowing fabric, hanging antique lamps and complete it with cubed pouffes.

Our first trip of the week was to the Dubai Museum. Lets say it was hot hot hot. The two cannons guard the main gate on the eastern wall, adorned by flags of Dubai and the United Arab Emirates.

Logan showing me Muscat. If nothing else, my kids are learning a little geography.

The Al Fahidi Fort was transitioned into the Dubai Museum. In the middle of the courtyard, stands a large dhow.

In the corner stands a traditional summer house, called an Arish, made from weaved palm fronds. The Arish has a distinct wind tower design, used for air conditioning in the pre-electricity days.

Inside the Arish there are sleeping areas, as well as a kitchen with household furnishings and objects used by local people in past times.

Life sized dioramas await you in the galleries below. There is information and archaeological sites that date back to 3000 BC. Several excavated skeletons on display give us a glimpse of the history surrounding the place.

Moving around the creek side souk, we see shops filled with craftsmen, tailors, vendors and buyers. Realistic sounds give the impression of a bustling market.

Streets portraying life in the desert showing date farms, wild animals and a Bedouin tent filled with trinkets.
